Standard Chartered launches STAR Fund as its latest sub-fund under the variable capital company (VCC) structure, developed in partnership with Seviora Capital, a member of the Temasek-owned Seviora Group in Singapore. The Signature Select Seviora Titans Absolute Return (STAR) fund offers investors exclusive access to a carefully curated portfolio of top-performing hedge fund managers, which are often difficult for individual investors to reach. With market volatility increasing, driven by weaker bond diversification, higher equity-bond correlations, and frequent drawdowns, investors are seeking strategies like STAR that can provide more consistent and resilient returns in uncertain conditions.
By employing a Fund of Hedge Funds (FoHF) structure, STAR offers broad strategy diversification, professional manager selection, and access to niche hedge funds. Investors can benefit from a diversified approach with no over-concentration in any single manager or sub-strategy. Moreover, the fund allows investors to enter top-tier hedge funds immediately, which usually remain out of reach, letting them invest with lower minimum amounts.
Standard Chartered Launches STAR Hedge Fund Partnership
Sumeet Bhambri, Global Head of Advisory and Managed Investments, Wealth Solutions at Standard Chartered, said, “We actively partner with Seviora Capital to deliver this Fund of Hedge Funds to our high-net-worth clients, helping them pursue diversification strategies amid volatile markets. This solution adds to the diversity of our VCC suite of funds, which offers products across all asset classes.” He emphasized that the bank continues to innovate and collaborate with leading industry players to enhance wealth solutions and support clients in their investment journeys.
Leow Li-Vern, Managing Director of Investments at Seviora Capital, added, “The ability of the STAR strategy to allocate to a portfolio of hedge funds with low correlation to public markets can improve diversification of clients’ portfolios, which is vital in today’s volatile macro and market environment. This, in turn, can result in overall improvement of risk-adjusted returns. And we are pleased that Standard Chartered clients will be able to benefit from this.”
STAR will initially be available to high-net-worth clients of Standard Chartered’s Private Banking segment in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Jersey, with plans to extend access to additional client segments over the coming months. Since establishing its VCC in June 2024, Standard Chartered has launched seven sub-funds, including two in 2026, focusing on delivering hard-to-access, custom-curated investment strategies exclusively to its clients. Lastly, this collaboration with Seviora Capital highlights the bank’s commitment to providing innovative and diversified investment opportunities in challenging market conditions.
